Only the Lonely
Only the Lonely is a romantic comedy and was released in 1991. It was written and directed by Chris Columbus. Starring John Candy as Danny Muldoon and Ally
Sheedy as Theresa Luna. Other noted actors are Maureen O’Hara, Kevin Dunn, Jim Belushi, Macaulay Culkin, Antony Quinn and Milo O’Shea. The story begins with a shy Chicago Policeman named Danny who lives with his strong, Irish mother Rose. Danny finally meets a sweet, shy girl, named Theresa, who works for her father in a funeral home. They begin to date and get very close. When Danny’s Irish mother Rose starts to get fearful of losing her son, she finds ways to interfere in their relationship. Danny asks Theresa to marry him, but she see’s that his mother will always be between them. Danny and Rose’s friend Doyle dies alone so Danny and his mother Rose decide to move to Florida. On the verge of losing Theresa forever, Danny realizes what he must do. He must confront his mother, and tell her that he will always love her, but he is going to marry Theresa. Seeing this, Rose goes on to Florida alone, and Danny and Theresa go on to live happily in Chicago.
