The Great Outdoors
The Great Outdoors is a 1988 comedy directed by Howard Duetc. The film grossed $6,121,115 nationally and $43,455,230 worldwide. The film stars John Candy as Chet Ripley, a loveable oafish guy who takes his family on a vacation at a lakeside resort. Their enjoyment is seriously compromised when his brother-in-law Roman Craig (Dan Aykroyd), along with his wife (Annette Bening) and children shows up. This is an ongoing war between Ripley’s carefree bunch and Craig’s obnoxiously prissy brood. Making things worse, a fierce storm forces both families to remain under one roof. After wrestling a bear, saving Craig’s twin daughters after they become trapped in an abandoned mine, fighting off a bat, and eating a steak the size of Texas, the two warring families begin to bond.
